Mount Remembers William F. Sheahan

Mount St. Mary's College and Seminary is saddened to learn of the death of William F. Sheahan, former Mount women's basketball coach (1981-1998). Bill, 63 of Gettysburg, PA, died Saturday, September 7, as the result of a traffic accident in Salisbury, MD.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, H. Patricia Gladmon Sheahan and his four children; Deborah L. Davidson of Kensington, PA, Brian M. Sheahan of Lutherville, MD, Kerry C. Sheahan of Gettysburg, PA and Dr. Timothy P. Sheahan of McKnightstown, PA.

Posting an all time record of 372-104, he retired after 17 years with one of the highest winning percentages in NCAA college history. In 1999, he was inducted into the Mount St. Mary's College Sports Hall of Fame.

Bill also ran the Mason-Dixon Basketball Camp at the Mount for 27 years.

"Coach Bill Sheahan was an accomplished and dedicated basketball coach," remarked Chappy Menninger, Athletic Director at the Mount. "It is a great loss to the athletic community and Bill will be sorely missed."

There will be a viewing on Thursday, September 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Monahan's Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 13, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 22 West High Street, Gettysburg. Internment will be in the parish cemetery.
