The
National Alumni Association of Mount St.
Mary's College and Seminary awarded the
Rev. Carl J. Fives Alumni Scholarship to
Rev. Mr. Peter J. Sheehan, a fourth-year
seminarian from the Diocese of Providence.
The announcement was made at the annual
Priests' Reunion Banquet held on October
1.
Named in honor of
beloved Mount priest and teacher, Rev.
Carl J. Fives, College'38 and Seminary'42,
the alumni scholarship recognizes Fives'
six decades of dedication and service. The
endowed-cash prize, funded by the National
Alumni Association, is awarded annually to
deserving college students and
seminarians. This year's recipient, Rev.
Mr. Sheehan, will be ordained as a priest
in 2004.
While attending
the seminary, Rev. Mr. Sheehan has been
involved in a variety of activities
including deacon assignments at the Seven
Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church
in Middletown, PA. and Philip's Church in
Greenville, RI. His pastoral assignments
are at St. John's Church in Westminster,
MD., St. Theresa of Avila Church, in
Washington, DC and St. Paul's Church, in
Cranston, RI.
In addition to his
pastoral and ministry activities, Rev. Mr.
Sheehan is currently an academic
representative for the class of 2004 as
well as a member of the Office of Campus
Ministry Team. Rev. Mr. Sheehan has also
served as the Master of Ceremonies for the
seminary. He was the chairman of the
deacon video production committee for the
2003 Deacon Night; as well as chairman of
the Church Vocations Awareness Night. And,
he chaired the transportation committee
for Mount 2000 and Beyond.
Prior to his
studies at the seminary, Rev. Mr. Sheehan
earned a degree from the University of
Rhode Island where he was a member of the
United States Marine Corps, as well as the
assistant golf pro.
